Three people were taken into custody after a chase that began in Jefferson City ended in Callaway County on Monday.

According to authorities, just after 10 a.m., Jefferson City police were assisting the Cole County Sheriff's Department with an investigation of a suspect on numerous charges.

Members of the sheriff's department were investigating a burglary in the county and saw a car at a motel on the south side of Jefferson City that was believed to have been at the scene and could be tied in with that crime.

They attempted to stop the vehicle, but the vehicle failed to yield and the pursuit began.

The pursuit continued northbound on U.S. 54 to Missouri 94, then eastbound on 94.

As the pursuit left the Jefferson City limits, one of the occupants of the vehicle shot at the primary pursuing officer at least once, but the officer was not struck.

The pursuit continued into Tebbetts, at times going onto levees along the Missouri River with multiple law enforcement agencies involved.

When the suspect vehicle returned to Missouri 94, it struck a tire deflation device. The vehicle continued westbound on Missouri 94 to County Road 481 and County Road 480. The pursuit eventually ended after the suspect vehicle drove through a farm gate off of a Callaway County Road.

As of Monday afternoon the names of the three persons taken into custody had not been released.

A 2-year-old child that was riding in the suspects' vehicle was placed in protective service.

Pending further investigation, all suspects are at the Cole County Sheriff's Office, according to a Callaway County Sheriff's Office press release.
