Fulton Police assist Jefferson City Police Department in ending high speed chase

The Fulton Police Department ended a high speed chase today after placing spike strips on Route H on the south end of Fulton, causing an alleged shoplifter's vehicle to malfunction, according to a Jefferson City Police Department release.

At about 1:30 p.m. today, Jefferson City Communications received a theft report at the Dick's Sporting Goods in the Stoneridge Parkway Shopping Center, according to the press release.

Witness descriptions helped lead JCPD officers to the suspect's vehicle located at West Main Street and West High Street. The release states an officer tried to stop the vehicle to investigate, but it "swerved in an obvious attempt to strike the patrol car."

The vehicle drove off eastbound on West Main Street and continued to travel east until reaching the Missouri River Bridge where it began driving north on U.S. Highway 54.

JCPD pursued the vehicle, but the chase was taken over by the Holts Summit Police Department, Callaway County Sheriff's Office and Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The Fulton Police Department was contacted at 1:43 p.m. and was able to stop the suspects using spike strips on Route H on the south end of Fulton, Major Roger Rice with Fulton PD said.

Rice said JCPD arrested three women from St. Louis City. The JCPD release states officers recovered $3,000 worth of merchandise.

The suspects are being charged with felony stealing, assault on law enforcement, resisting arrest by fleeing and multiple traffic-related offenses.
