William Woods shuts out Benedictine in AMC quarters

Senior midfielder Rachel Meyer scored twice in the fifth-seeded Lady Owls' 3-0 triumph over the No. 4 Lady Bulldogs in a quarterfinal game at the American Midwest Conference tournament on Friday at Firley Field.

William Woods (11-6-2) will play at top-seeded Columbia College in semifinal play at 6 p.m. Monday. The Lady Cougars (11-5-1) blanked No. 8 Lindenwood-Belleville 6-0 at home.

Meyer logged the opening goal in the 22nd minute off an assist by junior defender Sarah Krispin. Junior midfielder Jordan McNamara added to the Lady Owls' advantage in the 33rd minute via senior midfielder Brittainy German's assist to send William Woods into halftime ahead 2-0.

Meyer struck again in the 64th minute on senior midfielder Ashley Deckard's assist to close out the Lady Owls' scoring.

Sophomore Brittany Griffin saved four shots in posting William Woods' third shutout in a row.

The Lady Owls outshot Benedictine 8-4.
