William Woods women earn second, men fourth at AMC cross country championships

Sparked by three top-10 individual finishes, the William Woods University women placed second at the American Midwest Conference cross country championships Thursday.

The Lady Owls' team total of 57 points only trailed conference champion Columbia College (34). Meanwhile, William Woods placed fourth in the men's division with 101 points. Columbia College (26) completed a sweep of the team championships, followed by Hannibal-LaGrange (65) and Park University (73).

Senior LeeAnna Sanders paced the William Woods women with a fifth-place time of 20 minutes, 10.4 seconds. Freshmen Grace Young (20:40.9) and Jami Brandow (20:44.1) finished eighth and ninth, respectively.

Freshman Hannah Rutherford's time of 21:09.4 earned her 14th place. Junior Samantha Brolaski garnered 21st in 21:32.8 and senior Alex Apperson took 25th in 21:42.3.

Columbia College sophomore Lindsey Martin captured the women's individual title in 18:33.1.

Junior Kaleb Wilson guided the William Woods men, clocking a third-place time of 26:45.4.

Freshman Kyle Gabrielson came in 10th in 27:56.5, while senior Blake Cowers took 21st in 29:02.4. Freshmen Tim Ward (30:30.8) and Phillip Kulpinkski (31:17.6) earned 37th and 43rd place, respectively, for the Owls.

Junior Cristobal Renteria of Columbia College won the men's individual championship in 26:33.1.

William Woods will compete at the NAIA national championships in Lawrence, Kansas, on Nov. 22.
