Lady Blue Jays split final two matches at Washington invite

Westminster finished its stay at the Washington University Invitational with a straight-set loss to 19th-ranked Millikin Big Blue on Saturday.

The Lady Blue Jays (17-12) bowed to the Big Blue 25-18, 25-22 and 25-20. Westminster defeated the Transylvania (Kentucky) Pioneers 28-26, 22-25, 25-19 and 25-21 in its first game on Saturday.

Sophomore opposite hitter Gabby LaRose paced Westminster with 11 digs and eight kills as the Lady Blue Jays finished with a 19.1 percent attack mark. Sophomore setter Kayla Reeg posted a double-double of 26 assists and 10 digs.

Sophomore outside hitter Riley Lawrence's 16-kill performance sparked Westminster in their win over the Lady Pioneers.

Reeg added another double-double, leading the Lady Blue Jays with 38 assists and a team-leading 19 digs. Junior libero Caroline Will added 14 digs, while LaRose posted 13.

Westminster had a team-attack mark of 20.3 percent.

The Lady Blue Jays finish up their regular season with a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tilt at Principia at 7 tonight. Westminster outlasted the Lady Panthers in five sets on Sept. 13 at the Greenville Quad.
