New Bloomfield rezones land near City Hall to attract business

The New Bloomfield City Council recently passed an ordinance that rezoned land near city hall.

Mayor Mike Lowe said acreage around city hall is "open for business" as the space is zoned for residences and businesses.

"It will help give them prime land in the middle of town," Lowe said.

Lowe added that the measure is a part of the city council's push to welcome businesses, of which there are few in New Bloomfield other than the Meadow Lake Acres Country Club and New Bloomfield School District.

Firefighters are also planning to move out of the current fire department and into a new building. Lowe said the police department has shown interest in taking over the space once the fire department vacates.

Police are currently housed inside city hall and the move will give them their own space and area to park police vehicles, Lowe added.
