Lady Wildcats stumble in second half, tumble in semis

STURGEON - After battling state-ranked and top-seeded New Franklin to a standoff in the first half, the New Bloomfield Lady Wildcats didn't react with the required resources to pull off the upset.

With the game tied at 17-all at halftime, New Franklin assumed control by outscoring No. 5 seed New Bloomfield 25-8 in the second half and the Lady Bulldogs breezed to a 42-25 semifinal victory over the Lady Wildcats on Wednesday night at the 30th-annual Sturgeon Invitational Tournament.

HALLSVILLE - The Hornets, ranked No. 6 in Class 2 by MissouriWrestling.com, prevailed by pin in six weight classes Tuesday night to demolish the Indians.

Winning by pin for Fulton (17-2) were freshman Devan Hudson at 113 pounds, sophomore Andy Baysinger at 152, junior Trey Hudson at 160, sophomore Zach Benner at 182, senior John Kingsley at 220 and sophomore Clayton Bristol at 285.

STURGEON - No. 4 seed South Callaway gradually pulled away for the first-round victory Tuesday night in a clash between Bulldogs at the 30th-annual Sturgeon Invitational Tournament.

South Callaway owned a slim 11-10 edge after one quarter, increased its advantage to 23-16 at halftime and was in front 36-30 entering the fourth quarter. South Callaway outscored New Franklin 14-7 over the last 8 minutes to wrap up the 13-point triumph.
