North Callaway girls drop OT game at Southern Boone

The Ladybirds were outscored 13-7 in overtime by the Lady Eagles in a 63-57 defeat on Monday.

North Callaway (4-5) saw its three-game win streak snapped, a run that began with a 42-38 win over Southern Boone in the third-place game of the Centralia Tournament on Dec. 12.

Lady Eagle Trei Smith's 3-pointer with 30 seconds left evened the game at 50-all. Ladybirds junior guard Madison Ausfahl missed a potential game-winning field goal with :10 remaining to send the game into an extra stanza.

North Callaway - which led 25-22 at halftime - lengthened that cushion thanks to a 20-13 third-quarter scoring advantage to take a 45-35 lead into the final 8 minutes.

Southern Boone punched back in the fourth, outscoring the Ladybirds 15-5 to force an extra period.

"We played two of the best quarters of basketball this season in this game and two of the worst," North Callaway head coach Matt Miller said.

Ladybirds junior guard Erinn Bush led the team 14 points, including eight in the third quarter.

Senior guard Elaine Brinker finished with a double-double of 13 points and 10 assists, while picking up a team-high three steals. Freshman guard Kyla Bertschinger collected 12 points and a team-leading five rebounds, while Ausfahl scored all nine of her points after intermission.

Kylie Shoot led the Lady Eagles with 14 points, all in the second half. Faryn Griffin scored 10 of her 13 points in the second half and overtime, while Smith posted 10 points for Southern Boone (4-4).

North Callaway bowed 32-19 in the JV game.

Sam Schaefer and Skylar Schmauch each led the Ladybirds (4-3) with four points.

North Callaway plays a road game at Montgomery County at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8.
