Brinker, North Callaway push past Community

Senior guard Elaine Brinker was two rebounds short of a triple-double as the Ladybirds upended the Lady Trojans 58-43 in EMO play on Friday night.

Brinker ignited North Callaway with game highs of 19 points, 10 assists, eight rebounds and five steals. The victory was the Ladybirds' third straight and lifted them back to the .500 mark.

The contest was tied at 9-all after one quarter, but North Callaway (4-4, 2-0 Eastern Missouri Conference) then outscored Community 22-8 in the second quarter and went into halftime with a 31-17 lead.

Additional pressure on defense sparked the Ladybirds, who forced the Lady Trojans into 11 turnovers.

"It was a good win against a really good conference school," North Callaway head coach Matt Miller said. "The girls put a lot of pressure on Community on the defensive side, and that led to a lot of steals and easy baskets."

Junior guard Erinn Bush added 11 points and seven rebounds for the Ladybirds, while junior forward Bethany Bloss notched 10 points and five rebounds.

Danielle Brooks tallied 17 points to lead Community (5-2, 1-2 EMO). Samm Jett contributed 14 points.

North Callaway plays junior varsity and varsity girls-boys' doubleheaders at Southern Boone at 3 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29.
