Brinker, Ladybirds rally past Southern Boone to take third place at Centralia Tournament

Elaine Brinker fueled the North Callaway Ladybirds' final push.

North Callaway's senior guard supplied nine of her game-high 17 points in the fourth quarter as the fifth-seeded Ladybirds rallied past No. 2 Southern Boone 42-38 to take third place at the Centralia Tournament on Friday night.

North Callaway took an 18-12 advantage into halftime, but the Lady Eagles outscored the Ladybirds 14-5 in the third quarter to go in front 26-23. North Callaway countered by outscoring Southern Boone 19-12 over the final 8 minutes to punctuate its comeback victory.

Brinker - who was selected to the all-tournament team - also had three assists and three steals. Junior forward Bethany Bloss chipped in with eight points and pulled down a team-high seven rebounds for the Ladybirds (2-4), while junior guard Erinn Bush had six points, hitting all six of her free-throw chances, and six rebounds.

"This was a good win against a quality team," North Callaway head coach Matt Miller said. "We've played four games like this before (this season), but we haven't been able to get over the hump.

"Tonight we finished the game, and played excellent on defense."

Kylie Shoot topped Southern Boone (1-3) with 13 points and Kahe Price finished with 10.

The Ladybirds open Eastern Missouri Conference play at home against Van-Far at 6 p.m. Monday.
