Hanger chosen coaches' best Class 2 offensive player

Bulldogs, Thunderbirds, Hornets pick up MFCA postseason recognition

South Callaway senior slot receiver Cory Hanger recently was named the Class 2 offensive player of the year on the 2014 Missouri Football Coaches Association all-state teams.

The 5-foot-10, 160-pound Hanger was joined by a pair of South Callaway teammates who were first-team picks on the defensive side - senior end Dylan Hare (6-0, 205) and junior linebacker Dillon Stone (5-10, 225).

A total of seven players for the Bulldogs - who finished as Class 2 runners-up - received all-state recognition from the the MFCA. Senior quarterback Troy Hentges (6-0, 180) was a second-team offensive choice, while senior lineman Luke Horstman (6-2, 205) and senior cornerback Mason Shoemaker (5-9, 150) were second-team defensive selections.

Senior lineman Dakoda Ballard (5-9, 195) was also named to the third-team defense.

North Callaway senior lineman Michael Pezold (5-11, 197) was chosen to the second-team offense.

Meanwhile, Hanger - also as a defensive back - and Horstman, as a wide receiver, were two-way picks as 12 South Callaway players were named to the MFCA's Class 2, all-District 7 team. Hare, Stone, Hentges, Shoemaker, Ballard, senior offensive lineman Jacob Smith (5-11, 205), senior linebacker Trevor Miller (5-11, 190), senior defensive back Tyler Adams (5-6, 145), senior kicker Caleb Sconce (6-0, 150), and junior defensive lineman Hunter Call (6-2, 300) were also honored.

Pezold - also as a linebacker - and North Callaway junior offensive-defensive lineman George Jones (5-10, 225) were two-way choices on the all-District 6 squad. Also making the team for the Thunderbirds were senior quarterback Cole Branson (6-1, 195) and senior tight end Trevor Crisp (6-0, 187).

Six Fulton players were named to the MFCA's Class 3, all-District 6 squad. Selected for the Hornets were a pair of seniors, quarterback Sam Christensen (6-2, 195) and defensive back Noah Braun (5-11, 160), and four juniors - running back Travis Dean (5-11, 165), linebacker Kobe Kaminski (6-1, 215), offensive lineman Zach Benner (6-2, 215), and defensive lineman Clayton Bristol (5-11, 245).
