North Callaway girls bow at Hallsville

The Ladybirds are still searching for their first win after fading late in a 60-51 loss to the Lady Indians on Friday night.

North Callaway (0-3) trailed 32-30 at halftime and 48-47 entering the fourth quarter. Hallsville (2-1) took control by outscoring the Ladybirds 12-4 over the final eight minutes.

Senior guard Elaine Brinker sparked North Callaway with a game-high 21 points, hitting 5-of-6 field goals - 2-of-5 from 3-point range - and making all five of her free-throw attempts. Brinker also handed out five assists and came up with four steals.

Junior guard Erinn Bush logged eight points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds for the Ladybirds. Junior forward Bethany Bloss and freshman guard Kyla Berthschinger also had eight points apiece.

"The first half, we came out and really played some good ball," North Callaway head coach Matt Miller said. "The second half, especially the fourth quarter, we let down on the defensive end and we missed too many easy shots."

Hannah Stephens topped the Lady Indians with 17 points. Brooke Alley and Hannah Ricketts had 12 and 11 points, respectively.

The Ladybirds - seeded fifth - play No. 4 Centralia at 9 p.m. Monday in the first round of the Centralia Tournament. North Callaway bowed to the Lady Panthers 45-39 last Tuesday night in Centralia.
