South Callaway uses staunch defense to top Van-Far

A stout defensive effort by the Lady Bulldogs pushed them to a season-opening 42-11 win over the Lady Indians on Tuesday night

The victory is the first at South Callaway for new head coach Darren Humphrey, who replaces Jim Donnelly.

The Lady Bulldogs outscored Van-Far 16-2 in the first quarter then held the Lady Indians to single-digit scoring outputs in the final three frames.

"They played really, really strong," Humphrey said. "We got a lot of help from freshmen and underclassmen.

"We're young and I thought they came in and put up an overall great defensive effort."

Freshman point guard Adrian Mann paced South Callaway with 12 points, while junior guard Kennedy Baker added eight points. Sophomore guard Nicole Horstman and freshman guard Kaci Jordan each finished with seven points.

Van-Far's Jayda Dorgmeyer led her team with eight points.
