New Bloomfield Board of Education sets tax levy

The New Bloomfield R-III Board of Education set the tax levy to $4.3903 at its regular meeting Thursday night. Of that $4.3903 total, $3.0451 is for the operating tax levy and $1.3452 is for the debt service levy.

Annually, every school district must prepare an estimate of how much money it needs to sustain itself for the school year and decide what tax rate would produce the funds they need. The state assessor recommends a rate for the operating tax levy.

The district's total tax levy last year was $4.136. The district saw an increase in its assessed valuation last school year, which led to an increase in its tax rate last September, Superintendent David Tramel said at Thursday's meeting.

No one appeared at the hearing for the tax rate Thursday. The Board of Education unanimously voted to set the tax levy at $4.3903 per $100 assessed valuation.

Also at the meeting, the board recognized the New Bloomfield cheerleaders on their advancement to the state competitions on Oct. 4.

The board also recognized senior Paul Becker for being elected student state president of the Missouri State High School Rodeo Association for the 2014-15 school year.

The board thanked Mark Baxter, Kevin Nichols, Rick Clark, Brady Wiler, Doug Peters, Roger Rackers, Kevin Rackers and Cole County Industries for helping the district add new lights in the parking lot and extending the concrete area at the concession stand.
