Two weeks ago, the Moberly Spartans shocked the Fulton Hornets with a two-out, go-ahead grand slam in the first round of the Fulton Tournament.
That setback stayed with Hornet players and coaches.
"It was in our head, but you obviously can't think about it too much," junior Dalton Horstmeier said. "We remember that we kind of had it locked up and they came back and got us."
Luckily for Fulton, it wouldn't be a repeat performance. The No. 5 seed Hornets used a six-run sixth inning to grab the lead for good as they held on for an 11-9 win over the No. 4 Spartans in the first round of the Class 4, District 8 tournament on Saturday at the high school athletic complex.
With the victory, Fulton will play the top-seeded Kirksville Tigers in the semifinals at 4:30 p.m. Monday.
