Turns out, the state-ranked Fatima Comets needed those final three runs.
Fatima fended off a frenzied rally by the North Callaway Thunderbirds, who erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the seventh inning late Wednesday night in the championship of the 19th-annual Fulton Tournament.
North Callaway had the bases loaded with two outs when the Comets finally suppressed the wild comeback on a sharp defensive play to end the game, preserving a 12-10 title victory over the Thunderbirds.
