Mokane North Callaway senior guard Zac Eads scored a career-high 22 points, including the game-winning bucket as the fourth-seeded Thunderbirds bested the No. 5 Hermann Bearcats 62-61 in overtime.
Eads tallied 18 of those points in the second half and five of North Callaway’s seven points in overtime. North Callaway (7-3) and winners of four straight games, tied the game at 55 when senior guard Justin Murphy hit 1-of-2 free throws with three seconds left in regulation to send the game into an extra period.
Hermann’s Josh Otterer was fouled with 10 seconds left in overtime and he, like Murphy hit 1-of-2 free throws giving the Bearcats a 61-60 advantage. After coming out of a timeout, T-Birds junior guard Miguel Hudson sprinted the length of the court on an inbound, bounce passing to Eads who hit a short jumper with a second left for the game-winning points.
