Absconded sex offender gets 25 years

Sean Price, the Calwood man found guilty of two counts of first degree statutory sodomy was sentenced to 25 years in prison Monday during a hearing in Boone County.

The sentence was handed down after Price had absconded before his original hearing date in late March, only to turn himself in on April 8.

The investigation began when the Callaway County Sheriff's Office took a report of the instances, which occurred on the same night against a then-7-year-old female victim, in March 2008. The indictment on the charges was officially filed in December 2010 in Callaway County before a change of venue moved it to Boone in June the following year.

Callaway County Prosecuting Attorney Chris Wilson said that though the sentence handed down by Judge Christine Carpenter was five years short of the 30 years he had hoped for, he was still satisfied with the way the hearing went.

"I think ultimately we were pleased with the outcome, given the fact that he will have to serve 85 percent of that," said Wilson. "There are certain offenses where you're not eligible for parole until you serve a certain percentage ... so it will be 21 years and so many months before he's even eligible to be considered.
