Maupin, Owls blow past Hornets

— Head coach Pat Kelley saw a sullen, beat-up Fulton Hornets team when he gathered his players during halftime of Friday night’s game against the Marshall Owls.

But Kelley also saw the same Hornet squad he’d seen at the intermission of Fulton’s previous four games this season: a team that was very much in the game after less-than-ideal, first-half performances.

There was hope and there was momentum. But there was also Marshall senior quarterback Alex Maupin, whose dash just about dashed any good fortune the Hornets felt.

Maupin’s 62-yard punt return for a touchdown early in the third quarter keyed Marshall’s 27-point second half as the Owls downed Fulton 45-14 in North Central Missouri Conference play at Cecil Naylor Stadium.
