Megan Youse didn't realize she had made a deal until after the fact.
Minutes after the Fulton Lady Hornets volleyball team won at Wright City in straight sets on Oct. 23, senior setter Melissa Hoerber asked her head coach if the squad could celebrate the victory with a water-cooler dousing.
Youse declined and, while her attention was diverted, Hoerber asked if winning the district championship would warrant drenching the head coach. Before Youse could react, Hoerber sealed the deal with a handshake.
"She was like, "Did I really just shake on that?'" Hoerber said with a grin during Wednesday afternoon's practice in the high school's Roger D. Davis Gymnasium. "And I said yes."
"... I was like, "What just happened here?'" Youse said.
