Auxvasse decreases property tax rate

In a public hearing before their regular city council meeting Tuesday, the City of Auxvasse has set its tax rate for the upcoming year.

The 2013 property tax rate is now set at $0.7172 per every $100.

"To give you an idea of how we changed it, the assessed valuation of tax on real estate last year was $6,119,222," said Mayor Kevin Phares. "This year it dropped to $6,105,428. Basically Callaway County said that the rates dropped a little bit based on property value, and it looks like we roughly dropped not quite $14,000."

Many cities, schools and other entities in the county had to readjust their tax rates this year due to county vehicle assessments not being completed by deadline for setting tax rates for this year. This in turn happened because information received from the State Assessor's Association was incomplete, according to a previous statement from Callaway County assessor Dan Roe.
