WRIGHT CITY - The North Callaway Ladybirds weathered a close call in reaching the semifinals of the Class 3, District 7 Tournament.
Junior catcher Kelsey Coil responded with a two-run single to highlight a four-run fifth inning and No. 3 seed North Callaway went on to a 5-3 quarterfinal victory over No. 6 Wright City on Wednesday night.
The game was scoreless before the Ladybirds pushed across their first run in the fourth inning and then made it 5-0 with their outburst in the fifth. Wright City (3-19) made the final outcome close when it tallied its three runs - all unearned - in the sixth.
North Callaway now moves on to a semifinal showdown against No. 2 seed Warrenton (13-8) at 6 tonight.
