A woman was transported by helicopter Wednesday to the hospital following a serious accident where a foreign object broke through the driver's side windshield, Fulton Police Department officials say.

Police do not yet have a positive ID on the driver, who they said was heading northbound on Wood Street when the accident occurred. She was transported up the street by ambulance to the Callaway County YMCA shortly after 2 p.m., where a helicopter was waiting to transport her to the hospital.

"We don't have a for sure ID on the victim or what happened," said Fulton Police Chief Steve Myers at the scene of the accident. "We don't have witnesses to speak with either. Apparently an object we haven't identified yet fell off a vehicle, perhaps a truck. The female victim was life-flighted to a hospital, I would imagine University Hospital but I don't know that for sure."

Myers said the woman did have a passenger in the van, who was presumably uninjured.

An investigation is ongoing. Look to future issues of the Fulton Sun for more details as they arrive.
