Jinx Books to host Humane Society fundraiser

An adopted cat himself, J.J. the bookstore cat — undeniably the one in charge at Jinx Books in downtown Fulton — is hosting a fundraiser for the Callaway County Humane Society this weekend.

Friday and Saturday, all large trade-size paperbacks will be priced at $2 — with $1 of each sale going directly to the local humane society. Store hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Jinx Books owner Kathryn Wade said the inspiration for the event came from one of her regular patrons.

“One of our customers who comes in fairly often has gotten quite involved with the Humane Society and fostering, and we got to talking and we thought, well, why not?” Wade said. “We have a bookstore cat, and he was a stray and he’s very anxious to do something to help other animals.”
