Contests set for all six County offices

Contests have developed for all six Callaway County offices up for election this year, some during this summer's county primary election and others in this fall's general election.

The deadline for filing for county and state offices was this week at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

Republicans fielded a full slate of candidates in Callaway County for all county offices and Democrats filed a candidate for all but one office. Republicans will have to battle against each other in two primary elections.

Democrats escaped a primary election contest by fielding only one candidate for each office except one where they had no candidate.

Republican incumbent Western District Commissioner Doc Kritzer did not have a Democrat filing against him but he did pick up a primary election opponent when Billy Galloway of Holts Summit filed as a Republican against Kritzer.

Barring a successful general election write-in campaign, the winner of the Kritzer-Galloway race in the Republican primary on Aug. 7 will be elected as the Callaway County Western District Commissioner in the Nov. 6 general election.

Republicans will face another primary election contest for the office of Callaway County Eastern District Commissioner. Republicans filing for the office are Randall L. Kleindienst of Fulton and Carl Linnenbringer of Auxvasse. Also filing for the office is Democrat Bryant Liddle of Fulton. Democratic incumbent Western District Commissioner Gabe Craighead did not seek re-election.
