Central Missouri workforce development professionals visited the Smithsonian Institution traveling exhibition “The Way We Worked,” at the National Churchill Museum in Fulton.

The exhibit also included another display, “The Kingdom At Work,” prepared by the Kingdom of Callaway Historical Society on the workplace in Callaway County during the last century.

Those touring the exhibition from workforce development agencies in Central Missouri included Joyce Davis, Jan Vaughn, Kathy Groves and Mary Hughes. They were joined by Gary Jungermann, presiding commissioner of the Callaway County Commission.

The exhibition traces changes of the American workforce and how work became a central element of the nation’s culture.

The traveling Smithsonian exhibition and the Callaway County display, which ended Saturday, showed the tools and developing technologies and how they affected the work environment.

Fulton area unions also prepared exhibits of old tools and how they have changed with advances in technology.

Joe Hawkins of the Central Region Workforce Investment Board said the exhibition is an interactive lesson on how the work environment constantly changes and how the American workforce adapts.
