O'Fallon — North Callaway senior forward Zach Lavy led all players with 18 points and eight rebounds but the Thunderbirds couldn’t complete a comeback, falling to No. 2 seed Winfield 65-61 in the Class 3, District 8 semifinals Thursday night. North Callaway (13-14) drew within 63-61 when Lavy knocked down the last of his four 3-pointers with 6 seconds left. Lavy committed a foul on the inbound of Winfield’s Travis Summerlad, who calmly knocked down the two free throws to put the game away.
