Independence Day parade set in Fulton

Veterans groups sponsoring event

It’s official. Fulton will have a parade on Independence Day to celebrate the birthday of the United States of America.

David Beaver, commander of Fulton American Legion Post 210, said the parade will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 4.

“The parade will start forming at 9:30 a.m. on 10th Street just east of the Fulton Country Club. The parade will start at 11 a.m. and proceed west on 10th Street to Court Street. It will move south on Court Street to 2nd Street and end at Memorial Park,” Beaver said.

The Independence Day parade is sponsored jointly by Fulton American Legion Post 210 and Fulton VFW Post 2657.

Tom Maupin of Fulton, who currently is serving as quartermaster for District 9 that serves 25 Missouri VFW posts, said he strongly supports efforts to organize the parade.

“Fulton is the only community in Mid-Missouri that does not have an extended celebration on July 4 other than the fireworks event at the Fulton Country Club. It’s the birthday of our great nation and we need to do more. This is the first year of the parade and we hope to grow it each year,” Maupin said.
