Callaway Singers to host annual Christmas concert

The Callaway Singers invite area residents to come help them make a "Joyful Noise" Thursday night during the group's annual Christmas Concert.

Starting at 7 p.m. in Dulany Auditorium on the William Woods University campus, Director Marlene Railton said this year's event will feature some old standards, some newer arrangements and a sing-along as well. The concert is free and open to the public.

"We're just going to be doing festive Christmas songs - some are recognizable ones and some are new ones," Railton said. "We'll be doing "Carol of the Bells' a medley of "The Grinch' and "Hodie Christus.'"

Kim Barnes, who has sung with the choir for two years, said she is looking forward to Thursday's performance.

"We try to mix it up and have something fun for everyone," Barnes said, noting that the song she is most looking forward to is "Jingle Bells." "It's kind of an unusual arrangement."

Railton said one thing that will set this year's concert apart is that the 55-voice Callaway Singers now is an audition choir, rather than a community choir.
