Fulton junior midfielder Jakob Hull heads a shot in the first half of the Hornets' 2-0 loss to Jefferson City on Tuesday night at the high school sports complex.

The Fulton Hornets soccer team got outshot 8-2 in the first half and spent, by the count of head coach Brad Oestreich, about 70 percent of that period on defense.

And yet the Hornets still found themselves in a scoreless tie with the visiting Jefferson City Jays at halftime Tuesday night.

"I think a lot of the boys came into the game thinking that if we can come out of here with a 0-0 tie against Jeff City, we'd be doing pretty well," Oestreich said. "But when we got into the second half, they realized that if they stuck in there, they could make something happen."

The Hornets never did make that leap and were burned by two goals from Jays senior back Sergio Celada in the last 20 minutes of play in a 2-0 loss.

For the game, Jefferson City outshot Fulton 15-5 and seldom needed defensive stops in its own end of the field.
