Wathen completes first round at Class 2 state meet

Thunderbirds junior Gary Wathen shot a 98 in the opening round of the Class 2 boys’ state golf championships at the Rivercut Golf Course on Monday afternoon. The score put Wathen in a tie for 76th place with four other players.

Wathen, a first time qualifier, is 24 shots behind leader Mitchell Rutledge of Whitfield. Rutledge’s 74 leads all individual players and has helped Whitfield to a 338 team score, six shots behind Kennett High School’s 332.

Wathen begins his final round this morning at 8:27 in Springfield.
