13 county groups lose IRS tax exempt status

Thirteen Callaway County organizations have lost their tax exempt status from the United States Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

They are among about 275,000 other organizations that have lost their tax-exempt status because they did not file legally required annual reports for three consecutive years.

The IRS reported it believes the vast majority of the 275,000 organizations are defunct, but it also announced special steps to help any existing organization to apply for reinstatement of their tax-exempt status.
