The Westminster College Blue Jays claimed a share of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular-season title by closing out the regular season with a 96-76 romp over Principia College on Tuesday night.
Westminster (16-9, 13-3 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) — which extended its winning streak to six games — split the conference championship with Webster University and Spalding (Ky.) University. The Blue Jays have now won or shared the conference title for three straight years.
Webster earned the top seed and will host the SLIAC postseason tournament starting Friday night in St. Louis. The Gorloks own the tiebreaker over the Blue Jays, and Spalding is not eligible for tournament play while it completes its NCAA membership probation.
In Friday’s first semifinal at 6 p.m., No. 2 seed Westminster clashes with No. 3 MacMurray (Ill.) College (13-12). The two teams split their regular-season meetings; the Blue Jays prevailed at MacMurray 80-71 on Jan. 4, while the Highlanders won 66-62 on Jan. 26 in Fulton.
No. 1 Webster (18-6) will then meet No. 4 Greenville (Ill.) College (12-12) in Friday night’s second semifinal at 8. The tournament title game is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday.
