WIC program renewed in Callaway

The Women, Infant and Children (WIC) supplemental food program has been renewed for another year in Callaway County, Sharon Lynch, director of the Callaway County Health Department said Tuesday.

The contract with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services extends from Oct. 1, 2011, to Sept. 30, 2012.

"This program," Lynch said, "provides nutrition education, health promotion and a variety of nutritious supplemental foods at no cost to those who qualify. It helps ensure the best start in life for our children and the nutritional health of their mothers."

Participants are given authorizations that can be used at grocery stores to receive free qualified nutritious food for children and mothers.
