Two months and two loads of donations after the Joplin tornado hit, the Together for Joplin coalition is now working on its next project.

Since forming the coalition in the wake of Joplin’s May 22 disaster, Together for Joplin has raised about $70,000 worth of donations for the devastated residents. Just one week after the twister struck, the Fulton Jaycees took a semi-truck load of items down to Joplin on May 28, coordinating with the Joplin Jaycees on where to deliver the items.

Martha McGrath, Fulton Jaycees president, said she was overwhelmed by the generosity of the community.

“I have lived here all my life and this is the most outpouring I have ever seen the community do,” McGrath said. “Everyone just jumped on it.”
