2 Callaway residents injured in weekend mishaps

Two Callaway County residents were injured in separate one-car accidents during the weekend.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported Betty L. Smith, 72, Auxvasse, sustained moderate injuries Saturday when her 2000 Hyundai had a mechanical malfunction, ran off the left side of the road, struck a concrete culvert, and overturned into a creek.

The patrol said the accident occurred at 8:45 a.m. Saturday when Smith was westbound on Route E, about one-half mile west of County Road 345 in Callaway County.

Smith was transported to Callaway Community Hospital in moderate condition.The patrol reported Smith was wearing a seat belt and her car was demolished.

In another one-vehicle crash, Beth M. Melton, 47, Holts Summit, was injured Sunday when his 2008 Honda failed to negotiate a curve, ran off the right side of the road and hit a traffic yield sign.

The patrol reported the accident occurred at 2:05 p.m. when Melton was eastbound on Missouri 94, about one-tenth mile east of Bluffton Road in Montgomery County.

Melton was wearing a seat belt and his vehicle sustained minor damage.

Melton was transported by ambulance to the Hermann Area Hospital with minor injuries.
