Keith Kellner, 47, was being held without bond in the Cole County Jail on one count of first-degree murder and one count of armed criminal action.

According to court documents, Kellner walked into the McDonald's at 1918 Jefferson St. about 8:15 p.m. Friday.

He was going to talk with his recently separated wife, Pamela M. Kellner, 44, of Jefferson City, who was employed part-time by McDonald's .

The two sat down at a booth to have a conversation and according to witness accounts, a single gunshot was heard.

Witnesses then saw Pamela grab her chest and say "call the cops, he shot me."

Keith fled the scene and left a .380 caliber handgun behind.

Keith ran from the business toward U.S. 54. A short time later, he called 911 to let police know where he was, across the highway on Christy Drive.

Police in that area were able to locate Keith and take him into custody without incident. He was transported to the police department for questioning.

No one else was injured during the shooting.

Pamela was taken to Capital Region Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

A check of court records showed Keith had only some minor traffic violations on his criminal history.

According to state records, Keith was employed by the Missouri Department of Revenue as a revenue processing tech.

His Facebook page shows that he is a 1981 graduate of Fulton High School.

According to her obituary, Pamela had been employed at the Missouri Department of Revenue for more than 10 years and worked at McDonald's restaurants for more than 15 years in Rolla and Jefferson City.

The restaurant re-opened for business Saturday, and one person called it a surreal scene.

There were no indications that anything had happened the night before in the restaurant.

The staff was solemn going about their business.

On each of the cash registers was this sign:

"This is truly a sad day for our store. Out of courtesy for our staff, we ask that you not ask questions. The Jefferson St. Management Team."

Pamela had three children and one granddaughter.

Her funeral will be held Tuesday in Jefferson City. Burial will take place in Cabool, Mo.

Expressions of sympathy can be made to the Pam Kellner Children's Educational Fund.
