Sherry McBride Brown, 67, of Fulton, Mo., departed this life on Monday, January 29, 2024 at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, Mo.
Sherry was born on April 27, 1957 in Fulton, Mo., to Juanita and Virgil (Jack) McBride, who preceded her in death.
Sherry attended Fulton Public Schools and graduated from William Woods College, later attaining a Master’s Degree in Library Science from the University of Missouri, Columbia.
She was married to the late Winford Brown Jr. for a period of time.
Sherry was a devoted member of the Calvary Baptist Church growing up in Sunday School and being baptized at an early age by the Reverend Maceo Piggee. Her leadership roles were Sunday School Teacher, Superintendent of Sunday School, and Chairperson of the Hospitality Committee, which she truly loved. She served as Secretary for the Mount Carmel District Sunday School and Congress Association for several years. Sherry was also a member of the Callaway Historical Society as well as a devoted participant of the Fulton NAACP Organization.
In 1976 Sherry began her career as a Library Clerk Assistant at the Callaway County Public Library in Fulton, Mo. She continued to serve in multiple positions at the Columbia Public Library and the Holts Summitt Library. Sherry retired in December as the Outreach Service Coordinator after 47 years of public service.
Sherry will be truly missed by her sisters, Anna Braxton (Charles) of Fulton, Francelle Watson (Theodis) of Lee’s Summit, Bonnie Cason of Columbia; brothers, Ron McBride (Nancy) of St Louis, Virgil McBride Jr. (Fannie) of St Louis. She also leaves to mourn her uncle, Dr. Charles McBride of Muskegon Heights, Michigan; aunts, Goldie Vaughn of Fulton, Thelma Colbert of Kansas City, Martha Galbreath (Kenneth) of Fulton, and sister-in-law, Sylvia Brown of Columbia. Sherry has a special group of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews who will truly miss “Aunt Sherry.”
A special thank you to Crystal Morris, a niece, who worked with Sherry’s medical team assisting with her treatments in and out of the hospital, nursing care facility, and at home.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Lard E. Andrews officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
Interment will be at Southside Cemetery, Fulton, Mo.
