James Lee Gilman, 88, of Auxvasse, passed away on Friday, July 22, 2022, at his home, surrounded by family. He was born on December 27, 1933. He was the son of the late James Carlos Gilman and the late Lela (Love) Biggs. On March 11, 1950, Jim married the love of his life, Ruth Lucille (Marquette) Gilman. They were together 67 years until she passed away on February 9, 2018. Together they raised seven children. After having many jobs from a young age, he eventually retired from Wetterau Foods with 30 years of employment. He enjoyed gardening and tending to the farm. He had a love for buying, selling, and trading all things, especially horses. He was a frequent flyer at the Amish, knowing them all by name. But that was not unusual as he never knew a stranger. Jim could strike up a conversation with anyone. He enjoyed the simple things in life as an ideal day for him was sitting on the back porch or in the yard just visiting with friends and family. Those remaining to cherish his memory include: son, Gary Lee "Joe" Gilman (Janice) of Auxvasse; daughters, Kathy Gilman of Dixon, Sandy Gilman of Jefferson City, Cindy Hudson (Frankie) of Auxvasse, and Jennifer Garrett (Creag) of Fulton; brother, Robert Dean Gilman (Maxine) of Fulton; 15 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sons, James Richard Gilman and Randall Dean Gilman; brother, Ralph Anderson; sister, Carol Jane Marshall; and granddaughter, Angela Plybon. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton with Reverend Dr. Ronald Baker officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Auxvasse Cemetery. Memorial donations are suggested to Compassus Hospice Care c/o Maupin Funeral Home, 301 Douglas Boulevard, Fulton, MO 65251. Condolences may be left for the family at [email protected].
