Roseanna Viggers, 93, passed away February 1, 2022. Roseanna was born September 28, 1928, in Sedalia, Missouri, to Eugene and Alice Brasfield. After graduating from Butler High School, Roseanna earned a bachelor's of science from Park College in 1950. She married James H. Viggers and settled into married life, taking her from Missouri to Berkeley, California. She started work as an assistant in the physics lab at UC Berkeley. Later, when her husband served in the Korean War, Roseanna continued work in the medical lab at Herrick Memorial Hospital in Berkeley, Calif. Upon returning to Missouri in the early 1960s, Roseanna worked in the medical lab at St. Luke Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. Roseanna and James started a family and made a permanent home in Fulton, Missouri. She was a homemaker, foster mother, and had a career at the Missouri Department of Corrections as mailroom supervisor at the Fulton Regional Diagnostic Center for 25 years. At the same time, she taught evening GED classes through SERVE at the John C. Harris Community Center. Roseanna was an avid reader and loved music - jazz in particular- supported the Daniel Boone Regional Library and the Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri. She was a cat lover and rescued numerous cats over the years. Roseanna was kind with a gentle soul and a wicked sense of humor. She will be remembered as a loving mother, generous friend, confidant, and defender of the weak. Her openness and ability to listen without judgment was a quality that made her memorable in the hearts of many. She will be missed terribly by family and friends. She is proudest of her five surviving children, James McCollum Viggers, Amy Gillis, Saralinda Bauer, Andrew, and Samuel 'Sam' Viggers. She is also survived by grandchildren, James, Andrea, Drew, Matthew, Caylee, and Sairus; her son-in-law, Mark Bauer; daughter-in-law, Vicki Viggers, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her ex-husband, James H. Viggers; sisters, Elizabeth Melinsky, Mary Alice Wheatley; and brother,McCollum Brasfield. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on March 13, 2022, at Reichmann Pavilion, Columbia, Missouri.
