Gordon L. Penton, age 87, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2022, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg, Mo. Gordon was born on October 8, 1934, to Wallace and Ida Mae (Ward) Penton in Macon County, Mo. He served in the US Navy from 1956 to 1966, serving four years in the Pacific and six years in the Reserves. He was united in marriage to Joyce Salmons in Fulton, Mo. in 1966 and they were blessed with one son, Timothy Penton. He worked for a private grain inspection service in Iowa and the Federal Grain Inspection Service in Louisiana. He retired to Columbia, Mo. until entering into the Veterans Home in Warrensburg in 2016. Gordon lived a beautiful Christian life and was a member of the Church of the Nazarene where he enjoyed singing in the choir. He attended the Fulton Church of God Holiness until he became ill. He has now entered into his heavenly home and has perhaps joined the Great Choir in Heaven. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Gordon is survived his wife, Joyce Penton of Independence, Mo.; his son, Timothy Penton of Independence, Mo.; his brothers-in-law, Robert C. Salmons and wife Joyce of Overland Park, Kan. and James D. Salmons and wife Anita of Blue Springs, Mo.; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents (his father being a casualty of World War II); his stepfather, Ward Smith; as well as several step-siblings. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 18, 2022, at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, Mo. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Missouri Veterans Cemetery and can be left in the care of Sweeney-Phillips and Holdren Funeral Home.
