Shirley Ann Shasko) Kurt

Shirley Anne (Shasko) Kurt, 85, of Charlotte, N.C., passed away Monday, March 8, 2021, in Charlotte, N.C. Shirley was born on October 10, 1935, to Frederick William Shasko and Rose Marie Rotinski Shasko. She was the youngest of three children. Her two brothers, Bert Shasko (Ramona) and Jerry Shasko (Betty Ann) preceded her in death, as did her parents. After becoming a registered nurse, Shirley moved to the United States with a good friend and fellow nurse, where she met her husband, Warren Lee "Bud" Kurt. They were married August 31, 1958, and had two children, Pamela and Kristy. He preceded her in death on May 31, 1991. Much of Shirley's professional life was spent as Director of Nursing at the Warren E. Hearnes Children and Youth Center at Fulton State Hospital in Fulton, Mo. Following her retirement, Shirley moved to Jefferson City, Mo., where she lived for several years before moving to Charlotte, N.C. She is survived by her daughters, Pam Otto of St. Charles, Mo. and Kristy Maher (Tom) of Charlotte, N.C.; grandchildren, Jackson Otto (Linghan), Kate Otto, Kathleen Maher Kierski (Thomas), Tommy Maher, and Ellie Maher; great-grandchildren, Alexandra Otto and Kaia Otto; sisters-in-law, Ramona Shasko, Betty Ann Shasko, and Karolyn Dickson; and many nieces and nephews. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Lee "Bud" Kurt; her brothers, Bert Shasko (Ramona) and Jerry Shasko (Betty Ann); and her brother-in-law, Dean Dickson (Karolyn). A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
