Robert B. "Bob" Spencer

Robert B. "Bob" Spencer, 80, of Mokane, passed away on Monday, January 4, 2021, at Harry S. Truman Veteran's Hospital. He was born on June 1, 1940 in Fulton, Missouri to the late Elmer W. Spencer and the late Rosa Catherine (Hake) Spencer. On May 15, 1965, Bob was united in marriage to Lois (Laughlin) Spencer. She survives his passing. Bob proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1959 until 1963 as an Engineman III aboard the USS Kitty Hawk, of which he was one of the original crew. Bob retired from Fulton State Hospital in 2004 where he was Maintenance Supervisor. From 1968 until 2017, Bob and Monk Laughlin were co-owners of Bob's Car Wash in Fulton. Bob was an active member of AMVETS Post 153 of Mokane, serving as past Commander. He was also a member of VFW Post 2657, a life-time member of Mokane Lion's Club, and USS Kitty Hawk Veteran's Association. Many of Bob's efforts were devoted to helping others and improving his community. He never met a stranger and will be remembered as a great storyteller and community organizer. Bob will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 55 years, Lois; daughter, Cheryl Spencer of Mokane; sister, Mary Spencer Walker; grandchildren, Mason Horstman (Megan) of Fulton and Michaela Shaver (Brayden) of West Pointe, Ga.; great- grandchildren, Kylee and John Horstman; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by daughter, Sheila Spencer; and brothers, Earl Leon Spencer Sr., Tony Spencer, Raymond Spencer, William "Bill" Spencer, and Elmer Spencer Jr. A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton with Father Joseph Abah and Pastor Bruce Williamson officiating. Friends will be received from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
