Charles "Charlie" Armstrong, 74, of Jefferson City, passed away on Friday, February 5, 2021. He was born on October 31, 1946, in St. Louis, Missouri, a son of the late Charles Lee and Clara Mae (Shields) Armstrong Landers. Charlie was united in marriage to the love of his life, Mary Sue Fowler, on August 31, 1968. Charlie was a 1964 graduate of Jefferson City High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and Army Reserves for 32 years. After basic training was completed Charlie was flown to Germany where he was a Pershing Missile Specialist. He spent three years completing this mission and then returned to the United States and served the rest of his military career with the Army Reserves. He received numerous medals and honors while serving in the military. During his service in the Army Reserves, he also worked for the State of Missouri starting with the Department of Revenue and then the Department of Social Services in the Data Processing Unit. Charlie was a member of the Tebbetts United Methodist Church, the Tebbetts Masonic Lodge and the Mokane Masonic Lodge. While a member of the Tebbetts Masonic Lodge, Charlie was appointed District Deputy Grand Master for Masonic District #27. He was a member of the American Legion, the Forty & Eight and United States Field Artillery Association. Charlie loved spending time with his family and fur babies (CoCo, Tinkerbell and Zippy), vacationing and fishing in Minnesota and watching NASCAR. He always looked forward to going on the annual fishing trips to Canada with his fishing buddy, Roy Fowler. Anyone that knew Charlie, knows he loved the game of softball whether he was playing, coaching or keeping stats. He always made sure he kept up on all the rules of the game. His greatest enjoyment was being a part of Teresa's softball career and that love grew when Whitley started playing and continued through her high school career. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Sue; daughter: Teresa Wilson (Damond) of Jefferson City; siblings: Gary Armstrong (Cheryl), Janet "Sue" Johnson (Robert) and Steve Armstrong (Joyce); step-siblings: Linda Kelly, Danny Landers (Vicki), Ronnie Landers (Cheri) and Larry Landers (Kim); granddaughter: Whitley Wilson (fiancée Austin Randolph); nieces, nephews and other family and friends. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws: Roy and Marian Fowler; step-father: Arthur Landers and step-sister: Kathy Owens. Charlie felt it important to support Mary Sue in her love of education and donated his body to science. A celebration of Charlie's life will be held on May 1, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Cole County Park in Jefferson City, Mo. Since Charlie's granddaughter, Whitley Wilson, was the "Light of his Life" he requested that memorial donations be made to the: Whitley Wilson Education Fund at Central Trust Bank.
