Joseph Milster Barks Jr., 93, of Fulton, went to be with his wife Sally and the Lord on October 23, 2020. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri on August 23, 1927, to Joseph Milster Barks, Sr. and Mary Maxie Humphreys. Joe graduated from University City High School where he was described as "A moral, sensible and well-bred man." He participated in many activities including Band (playing the tuba), Basketball, Bowling, Track, A Capella, and the Chess & Checker Club. He enrolled in Westminster College in 1945, where his father and grandfather were both alumni. Schooling was interrupted when he was called to service during World War II and served in the Army in Korea. He was discharged in 1947, and returned to finish his college degree. Joe married his college sweetheart, Sally Lou Ray, on June 1, 1952. Joe spent the summers of his youth on his Uncle Ralph Humphreys farm in McCredie, Mo. There he developed his love of farming. He purchased his uncle's farm and it became known as Hum-Bar Farms. He later purchased another farm in Kingdom City and built his family a new home where he farmed until he and Sally moved to Fulton. Joe was the Department Head of Maintenance at Harbison-Walker Refactories in Fulton for 30 years. Joe, being civic minded, volunteered as an ambassador for the Chamber of Commerce, delivered meals on wheels for years, and was an active member of the Fulton Kiwanis Club for over 50 years. He faithfully attended the Presbyterian Church and was an elder. In retirement, he took up weaving on a large loom and all the family members have beautiful bedspreads, placemats and other household items that Joe took pride in making. Joe was a good son, husband and father. He worked hard and was always kind and loving. He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Sally; and his infant, daughter Rena Kathryn. He is survived by his three sons, Joseph M. Barks III, Duncan (Tina) Barks, and James "Ben" (Mitzi) Barks; grandchildren, Sarah Barks, Adah Barks, Spencer Barks, Sara Barks, and Jeremiah Barks; and two great-grandchildren, Ozlynn Potts and Isaiah Barks. No public service will be held. Condolences may be given on-line at maupinfuneralhome.com.
