Alfred B. Sommers, 93, of Fulton, passed away at Presbyterian Manor on Sunday, February 18, 2018. He was born in Wardsville, Missouri on May 21, 1924, the son of the late Joseph Sommers and the late Rose (Braun) Sommers. On April 3, 1948, Al was united in marriage to Dorothy Dean (VanLoo) Sommers. She preceded him in death on November 21, 2009. Al proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Infantry Americal Division during WWII. He retired from Missouri Department of Transportation. A man of great faith, he was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church. Al enjoyed gardening, mowing the grass and tinkering with most anything. He would often take things apart just to see how they worked. Al will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by four children, Wayne Sommers and his wife, Trudy; Sharon Hoerl and her husband, Mark; Kenny Sommers and his wife Sherri; and Marsha Millard and her husband Brent; seven grandchildren, Shayla Keller (Bill), Alayna Dennis (Jeremy), Andrew Millard (Jenn), Matthew Millard, Derek Sommers, Jenna Doerhoff (Brad), Grant Taylor (Mary); and nine great-grandchildren. Along with his parents and wife, Al was preceded in death by siblings, Vincent Sommers, Jerome Sommers, Frances VanLoo, Augusta Rackers; and great-granddaughter, Finley Kay Doerhoff. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 22, 2018, at St. Peter Catholic Church. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 21, 2018, at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton with a Rosary Service at 7:00 p.m. Interment with Military Honors will be in Callaway Memorial Gardens.
