Betty Joyce Engel

Betty Joyce Engel, 88, of Fulton, passed away on Wednesday, February 14, 2018, at Fulton Manor. She was born in Columbia, Missouri on June 24, 1929, the daughter of the late Horace Stanley Johnson and the late Beatrice (Whyte) Johnson. Betty was married to James E. Smith and later Bill Engel. Both preceded her in death. Betty was a member of Church of God (Holiness). She worked at the Shoe Factory and later at Fulton State Hospital where she retired after more than 20 years. Betty enjoyed camping, watching TV, reading and doing word search puzzles. Betty was an avid St. Louis Cardinal and Missouri Tiger fan. Betty is survived by son, Gary Smith of Kingdom City; daughters, Jackie Haarmann (Terry) of Kingdom City and Brenda Giboney (Harold) of Kingdom City; sister, Wanda Trice of Ava; brother-in-law, Jack Ravenscraft of Rocheport; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Those greeting her in heaven include infant daughter, Gloria Jean; daughters, Diana Pennell and Pamela Engel; brother, Wayne Johnson (Shirley); sister, Barbara Ravenscraft; daughter-in-law, Cecelia Smith; and brother-in-law, Hank Trice. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton with Reverend Travis Sayler officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Callaway Memorial Gardens.
