William John Otting

William John Otting, 75, of Fulton, passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2017, at his home. Born in Bernard, Iowa on July 26, 1942, he was the son of the late John Otting and the late Melitta (Melloy) Otting. On July 6, 1970, he was united in marriage to Mary (Becker) Otting. She survives his passing. Bill proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal. Bill also served in the Peace Corps where he was stationed in El Salvador, Central America. He retired from Westminster College where he worked in security and as a locksmith. A member of St. Peter Catholic Church, he served as the Athletic Director for St. Peter School and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Bill was an avid Cardinal fan who enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Bill's memory will forever be cherished by his wife of 47 years, Mary; son, John C. Otting (Emily) of St. Louis; daughters, Jennifer L. Otting of Madison, Wis., Barbara A. Ramsey (Jason) of Columbia, and Elizabeth M. Otting of Fulton; sisters, Marna Elliott (Bill) of Carthage, and Carol Kroyer of Magdalena, N.M.; and grandchildren, Olivia and Isbelle Ramsey. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Daniel Otting; and brother-in-law, Harry Kroyer. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at St. Peter Catholic Church in Fulton with Father I. C. Medina officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.
