Vollie C. "Ted" Salmons Jr., 84, of Fulton, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, December 17, 2015. He was born on September 16, 1931, in Fulton, the son of the late Vollie C. Salmons and the late Lucille (Shryock) Salmons. On May 18, 1956, Ted was united in marriage to Phyllis Anne (Rose) Salmons. She survives his passing. Ted proudly served his country in the United States Army Infantry during the Korean War. He worked for Ovid Bell Press for 8 years prior to his employment with the Callaway County Sheriff's Department where he served as Sheriff from 1968 until 1984. Ted was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, time spent with his dogs and rooting for his St. Louis Cardinals. He especially enjoyed spending Thanksgiving and the holidays with his family. Ted could often be found sharing stories at coffee groups and with his buddies at Callaway Pawn Shop. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church. Ted's loss will be deeply felt by his family, including his wife of 59 years; brothers, Albert Salmons (Bernice) and Joe Salmons (Jackie), all of Fulton; sister, Dorothy "Dot" Vaughan (Cotton) of Fulton; sister-in-law, Naomi Salmons of Columbia; and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, Ted was preceded in death by brothers, Robert (Abbie), Ernest (Minnie), Roy (Mary Jane), Glenn, and Leo (Betty); and sisters, Pearl Hamilton (Raymond), Francis Scheilz (Marshall) and Betty Mae Lawrence (Jim). Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, December 21, 2015, at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton with Pastors Mike Crowson and Guy Thomas officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment with Military Honors will be at Callaway Memorial Gardens.
