Betty Nichols

Betty J. Nichols, 76, of Fulton, was called to her Heavenly home on Wednesday, December 9, 2015. She was born in Callaway County on April 8, 1939, the daughter of the late Fay Moore Maddox and the late Winnie Lee (Harvey) Maddox. On December 10, 1970, Betty was united in marriage to Billy John "B. J." Nichols. He preceded her in death on November 7, 2014. Betty was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. She retired from Fulton Housing Authority where she worked for many years. Betty was a gifted musician. She played piano in church and performed with the Kingdomaires band. She will be remembered as a generous woman of God who cared for her family and helped those in need in any way she could. Those remaining to mourn her loss and cherish her memory include daughter, Jaelyn Briggs (Patrick) Douglas, Kans.; son, Joe Nichols (Karla) of Columbia; daughter-in-law, Colleen Winterowd; brothers, Jack Maddox of New Bloomfield, and Elton Maddox (Bonnie) of Fulton; sisters, Treva Vandeloecht (Bob) of Fulton, and Juanita Bura (Dave) of Fulton; grandchildren, Heather Schulte (Brad), Joe Nichols, Jr., and Benjamin Winterowd; great-grandchildren, Logan, Caden, Asher, and Findley Schulte; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Betty was greeted in Heaven by her parents; husband; beloved son, Darren Ross Winterowd; step-mother, Louise Maddox; sister, Margaret Ruth Edwards; brother-in-law, Fred Edwards; sister-in-law, Eva Mae Maddox; and nephew, Eric Vandeloecht. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 15, 2015, at Maupin Funeral Home with Reverend Walter Lockhart officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, December 14, at the funeral home. Private inurnment will be in Callaway Memorial Gardens at a later date.
